Over the holiday weekend we escaped to Austin and the Hill Country. Swaths of painted landscape lined our route — the wildflowers are in bloom. Texans wait all year for this short span of time when highway roadsides are ablaze with bluebonnet, Indian paintbrush, primrose, coreopsis. What a sight.
It was a glorious blur of only 33 hours: cheese-tasting; sipping at wineries; finger-licking BBQ
antipasti in the hotel room; exploring sleepy Blanco; pretending we’re 1000 miles away instead of only 200; meeting new kitties; walking in a perfectly clear stream; hiking Pedernales Falls State Park;
discovering Wimberley; smelling the flowers; strawberries and chocolate. And what Texas vacation would be complete without Belgian waffles in the shape of the Lone Star state?!
We really needed this break away from work and agendas and stress and the everyday. Next time I’m restless I’ll remember those few glorious hours.
